While Magic can be viewed by other magic users, mundanes only see the effects. So whilst a mage may release a basilisk which may turn a victim into stone and then bite them in two, mundanes will only see that the mage gestures, the victim freezes on the spot and is then torn in two as though by telekinesis. An autopsy will confirm this though the pressure pattern will show what looks like bite marks on the body they appear to have been caused by pressure only so they will conclude that the attack was psychokinetic generating an uneven pressure wave.
For this reason most real magicians are believed by the scientific community to be psychics who use the ‘illusion’ or psychosis of magic to colour their meta-abilities. Mages are therefore considered deluded meta-humans.
Mages will not register as either Psychic or meta-human unless that is also part of their DNA – magic is invisible to all tests or scanners.
Mundanes who open their minds to magic and accept it, will quite quickly start to be able to see the underlying cause of the magic.
They will also start to see the magical signature auras of all magic-users and will exhibit their own (admittedly weak) magical auras.
The majority of magic requires the constant maintenance of ‘The Three’ the will, words and the wave – to help shape their magic. Most actual spell casting is done by using short incantations (most often in ancient languages) accompanied by specific gestures and the focused will of the caster. This is because certain words and gestures act as psychological triggers to alter the perceptions of the mind, allowing one to summon an extra-dimensional force to override the usual laws of nature.
