About

This campaign and its companion Claremont Academy campaign sessions are run as a hybrid face-to-face and over Teams sessions but also uses Bluebooking (see here for an explanation).

Two of my players and I live in a small rural town in West Yorkshire, UK which is supposedly the 4th funkiest town in the World (my other players, though UK-based, play online) so finding like-minded people to participate wasn’t easy. we started off with an advert in a local comic book shop (and Co-op supermarket) which resulted in finding Chrono and Banshee’s players. We were then subsequently joined by Young Sam and then Akira’s player joined us, followed by Mace,  SInce then the latest players (Paragon, X-Ray and Celestus) have been online only.

At present we run fortnightly games (usually) with myself and the remaining four players.

These campaigns are set on an alternate Earth set ’15 minutes into the future’. This world has developed differently for centuries.

Meta-powers first surfacing in 1908 or 1909 (depending on whether you believe the first Meta was Russian or North American).

The Republic of Ireland never gained independence from the UK here and the whole island, known as Éire remains part of the United Kingdom with a devolved government similar to Scotland and Wales.

The PCs are based in the fictional city of Wessex (located where Oxford exists in our world) which became Britain’s third largest and most modern city after the second World War.

I wanted this campaign to be worldwide but based outside of the USA and so I decided that the United States of America was in a perpetual state of martial law since an attack by meta-humans (inspired by Matt Forbeck’s Brave New World) and the USA’s subsequent attempts to capture and detain all powered/Meta-humans from around the world (extraordinary rendition) resulting in worldwide condemnation, political isolation, enforced conscription of US-located Metas regardless of nationality and a subsequent travel embargo by the rest of the world.

In 1990 this Earth was visited by an Interstellar Empire, The Ziru Sirka (a human-controlled empire borrowed from the Traveller RPG) from the First Imperium period altered to fit with First Contact with a Terra that had been at the centre of a force sphere over 50 parsecs wide that blocked access from outside the ‘Solomani Sphere’ for millennia which then mysteriously collapsed in 1908. Yes, the same year as Meta abilities activated on Earth… Diplomatic relations have been established.

In recent years Homo sapiens have also discovered that they are not the only inhabitants on Earth and they shared the planet with at least two genetically altered cousin races, Aquans and the Aerie. Its also likely that the human races of the Ziru Sirka may also have been kidnapped from Earth hundreds of thousands of years before. There may also be other races here secretly (including the Atlans; the immortal meta-humans who fled the 27th Century and may have been the original Gods of early civilisation!)

A detailed time line from the big bang to modern day exists but at present this information remains primarily unknown to the players.

The Campaign is fully detailed in an online database and makes extensive use of images (most of which will not be displayed here as they are copyrighted and I don’t have permission to display).

Much of modern day Wessex was based around the city of Oxford or based on two M&M campaign books; Freedom City and Dragon’s Gate. I have also included material inspired by several other RPGs (such as Traveller, Delta Force, TimeWatch etc) as campaign background.

Where published organisations (such as Terminus, Labyrinth or the Foundry) have been used in this campaign, I have changed them quite dramatically to better suit my personal narrative.

A number of characters (and events/adventures) from numerous M&M 2e and 3e books (such as Hero High, The Black Chapter or Threat Report), particularly from Green Ronin and Vigilance Press as well as the Champions RPG have been used in this campaign (however many have again been changed, adapted and their images changed to make it harder for players to identify immediately).

Welcome to the world of The Balance and the Meta-students of Claremont Academy.
